Get your butt in gear!!

The clam is a fantastic exercise to get the fibres of your gluteus medius muscles activated and ready for action. As a society we tend to have under active glutes – from sitting on them and restricting their blood flow, and then not using them enough (in activities such as sprints and heavy leg lifts). If you don’t want to leave yourself injury prone and saggy bottomed, I recommend clams as a great place to start to reawaken those glutes!

Sets should be slow, controlled and high rep (at least 15 reps). Place a hand on your bum as you do the exercise to ensure the right muscle is firing. Just don’t offer to help anyone else out with this! Due to the low intensity of this exercise, it can be done frequently.
